MATH INTERVENTIONS
We have used both the EngageNY curriculum and the Do the Math curriculum to drive our Math interventions. As we run our intervention program, all students participate in a pre-test. Any student whose score falls below our cut-off score is selected to participate in our intervention program. The success of our hard-working teachers and capable students is evident in the improvements in the student's post-test scores!
EngageNY offers an extensive general education curriculum with interlocking components across skills and grade levels. This curriculum focuses on both building and maintaining basic fluency skills as well as building mathematical skills in a sequential, logical order that enables students to build upon already learned skills. For more information on what this curriculum has to offer, check out https://www.engageny.org!
Do the Math is an intervention curriculum specifically designed to meet the needs of students who struggle with Math. This program focuses on hands-on activities and peer games to develop concept acquisition. Key components of this program include teaching Math skills using different methods than those used in the standard curriculum to enable students to activate previously unaccessed areas of their brain to learn new skills. READING INTERVENTIONS
Our reading interventions have utilized the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) and Reading A-Z programs. As with our Math interventions, our Reading intervention program is based upon using pre-tests to determine areas of student need. Students whose performance falls below our cut-off score participate in intervention lessons. Throughout the school year, students have developed fluency and comprehension skills through these interventions!
